Dogs

Athena

Athena was found alone in the cold and when her finder had her scanned for a microchip, it was discovered that she went missing 8 years ago from her family over 2 hours away! Unfortunately, her previous family’s living situation changed and they are unable to reclaim her.
She is around ten and has mild congestive heart failure, for which she is on medication. She is the sweetest girl and loves frolicking in the snow.

Libby

Libby is a gorgeous and young shepherd mix girl who was dumped at the Taos Public Library and eluded capture for several weeks. She is still gaining confidence and would love to have another dog in the home to learn from.

Mr. Woosh

Mr. Woosh is a big sweetie who is timid and gentle. He takes a while to warm up but is very affectionate once he has. He walks great on a leash and sits well for the groomer.

Ricky

Ricky is a sweet and sensitive boy. He was abandoned in a trailer where no one knew he was living for ten days. He has the tiniest little ears and pretty grey and white coloring.

Gunner

Gunner was part of a semi-feral pack that started with two dumped pups. He is still learning how to trust but is an extremely sweet and eager boy, he just needs a little time and extra love!

Maize

Maize was born feral and is slowly finding himself after several weeks of constant socialization.
He loves playing with other dogs (and cats) and is gentle with the smaller dogs and submissive to the older dogs.
He will need time in his new home for become totally comfortable and open up, but we have no doubt he’s going to be an amazing companion.

Pepper

pepper is an angel! She’s loyal and playful despite having been previously feral. She’s submissive toward other dogs and generally gets along with them if they are not bullies.

Gump

Gump is an adult male goofball. We think he is a red heeler & Beagle mix. 100% good boy. He was dumped in Taos with his companion, Bubba. Gump is neutered, microchipped and up to date on vaccinations.

Willow

Sweet Willow is the matriarch of the pack we rescued from the three peaks house fire two days before Christmas. She is calm and quiet, but takes a little time to warm up to new situations. She is around 85 pounds, spayed, microchipped, and up to date on vaccinations.

Smiley

It's easy to see how Smiley got his name! Smiley boy is sweet and shy but making progress every day! He came to us with burns from the mesa house fire that are healing up nicely. He is neutered, chipped and up to date on shots.

Bumble

Bumble is a precious and shy girl. She was bit in the face by another dog when she was a puppy, leading her to look like shes been stung by a bee all the time. But we think she is absolutely perfect and adorable. She is around 65 lbs, spayed, chipped and up to date.

Kevin

kevin is a handsome and dignified gentleman. He came to us hours after he was hit by a car and has been recovering from a fractured pelvis and two toes, as well as lots of road rash and abrasions. He has healed up very well but is still a little slow moving and probably will not be able to run and play like he once could. He would love to be a couch potato with you and enjoy relaxing in a home of his own!

Meowth

Meowth is a very sweet and shy boy. He and his siblings and mom were rescued from the closet of an abandoned trailer.

Bulbasaur

Bulbasaur has such a unique look! He is a sweetheart who also loves tormenting his mom. He and his siblings and mom were rescued from the closet of an abandoned trailer.

Ruthie

Ruthie is a perfectly petite little heeler girl! She was left behind when her family moved away, so she is understandably shy and hesitant to trust. She will need a family who will take their time and go slowly with her.

Formerly Feral Farm Dogs

Do you have land that needs a protector? These dogs are not suited for home life but need a place and caretakers to call their own.

Mama

Mama is a true guardian. Coyotes don’t stand a chance with her on duty.

Dobby & Misty

Dobby and Misty are sweet and shy mamas who have had a hard life and need a place to relax.

Cider

Cider is a playful sweetie who just hasn’t quite gotten used to humans. She would love to live alongside you and your other animals without pressure

Cats

Robert Cattinson

Bob might actually be the perfect cat. A once-feral mesa cat, he now LOVES love and gets along with animals of all shapes and sizes.

Rubeus

Rubeus is an energetic and loving teenage boy.

Ginger Cat

Ginger cat is your typical orange boy. He enjoys causing chaos and slapping everyone around (yes, even people).

Our Mission

Improving the lives of stray and disadvantaged dogs and cats in Taos County and beyond by facilitating lifelong adoptions and providing behavioral resources to keep pets in loving homes.

Additional Programs

Found Animal Foster
In an attempt to further assist with the dozens of calls we get every week about stray and found animals, we launched the Found Animal Foster program. When a community member finds an animal and an owner cannot be located, found animal fostering allows them to keep the animal in their home temporarily while we get them vetted, sterilized, socialized and hopefully into their forever home.
Mesa Paws Pet Food Bank
Every Thursday at 2:00 we hand out free dog and cat food at the Carson Food Bank.
Mesa S/N Transport
Transportation can be a huge issue when owning pets or caring for strays on the mesa. We help schedule and transport spay/ neuter and veterinary care for animals of mesa dwellers who have trouble getting into town on their own.
Emergency Veterinary Support
Available on a case-by-case basis, when we have the available funds, we are always willing to do what we can to help pet owners in our community when they are faced with emergency situations for their beloved pets.
